when nostalgia for the 20teens rolls around, get ready for jokes about vaping, superhero movies, and the McElroy brothers

· Willed Into Being · 1 · 1 · 10

those podcast boys are gonna be like the Beatles of twenty teens nostalgia, mark my words

place your bets now on which one will get cancelled and/or strike out solo for more money

@BestGirlGrace I think about this a lot... Are future generations going to talk about PewDiePie like Bogart? Something they weren't alive for but know peripherally about? xD

it will be Justin and it'll be something adjacent to Sawbones. the boys are generally empathetic and have online discourse savvy other entertainers don't. but Justin is going to say something that basically distills down to "maybe listen to doctors on this issue" and the cancellation machine will whirr to life set against him.

@jackdaw_ruiz Makes sense. Travis knows he has to hitch his wagon to his brothers, and while Griffin probably has the best chance of making it solo, he also knows that the magic is having a rapport with someone.

@spookcentral @BestGirlGrace he's already tried and given up. he moved to hollywood to try to be an actor, and has learned that no, that is not happening

@bryceyoungquist @BestGirlGrace

travis does not strike me as the kind of guy who only tries things once. plus he has all the podcast money to support him

@spookcentral @BestGirlGrace there are like a dozen failed podcasts he's left behind him too, with the only survivor being the one with his wife that really sucks

@bryceyoungquist @spookcentral @BestGirlGrace he still does like 3 or 4 other podcasts including his unhinged politics podcast where hes like a free market moderate

@tasnyx @bryceyoungquist @BestGirlGrace

if you are listening to a travis mcelroy podcast without the other two macelroy brothers please seek out professional help

@spookcentral @bryceyoungquist @BestGirlGrace 70% of the time i can barely handle him with the other mcelroys, i cant imagine being able to tolerate him on his own

@spookcentral @bryceyoungquist @BestGirlGrace yeah im with you on this, hes the only one of them with a truly exponentially high level of unearned confidence too which is usually needed to become a successful actor

@bryceyoungquist @BestGirlGrace

listen. griffin and justin already had a good grift going with polygon (people seem to forget that they literally helped found polygon) and they gave it up to podcast full time. they both know they're the best as a duo. travis doesn't have that self-awareness (and thinks he's funny on his own!)

@spookcentral @BestGirlGrace the thing is when travis hits gold he hits GOLD.

see: riddle me piss, mouth of mango, thank travis for travis

@bryceyoungquist @BestGirlGrace

same can be said of justin and griffin, they're just more consistent outside of the gold bits

@bryceyoungquist @BestGirlGrace

the only mcelroys property i even bother consuming now is monster factory because justin and griffin bring their a-game

@spookcentral @BestGirlGrace adventure zone: the latest one is quite good so far. travis is DMing. he appears to be better at realizing that your players should interact with the gameworld as opposed to the other way around than Griffin is

@bryceyoungquist @BestGirlGrace

i will never listen to four straight white cis men play a tabletop rpg

@spookcentral @BestGirlGrace will you listen to griffin mcelroy describe creatures of myth and legend wreaking havoc on a remote west virginia town while his father and siblings are just kinda there

if so, amnesty past about the halfway mark is definitely your bag

@spookcentral @BestGirlGrace griffin writes a decent radio drama but towards the tail end of Amnesty you could find/replace all of Justin, Travis, and Clint's lines with "we do that"

@bryceyoungquist @spookcentral yeah basically, in general im mostly cold on taz compared to in the past just cause i enjoy friends at the table a lot more but surprisingly the travis run season isnt too bad

@bryceyoungquist @spookcentral I'm not as anti-travis as some folks, but I also think that he knows better than anyone which side his bread is buttered on

@BestGirlGrace @bryceyoungquist

to actually answer your question

griffin would be the most able to break out on his own (i think he's the most creative)

justin already struck out on his own and came back because podcaster is the only job easier than games journalist

travis is still secretly hoping he hears back from an audition he did for a recurring role on Smallville in 2009

@BestGirlGrace @bryceyoungquist

i would not be surprised to see some sort of griffin mcelroy solo project come out within the next couple years

@spookcentral @bryceyoungquist I do think that Griffin is the most likely to have a successful solo career, but I also think that he knows that he works best with someone who can match his energy level, and the person who does that best is Justin

@BestGirlGrace @bryceyoungquist

N*ck R*binson did a pretty good job there for a while but then it turns out he was a massive sex pest

@BestGirlGrace @bryceyoungquist

i've been saying for three years that griffin needs to find a new cohost for Cool Games Inc and get it going again because it was the best of the one-mcelroy podcasts

@spookcentral @BestGirlGrace he combined tremendous scale of sex pestery with just the most wheedling and shitty format for it

@jimpjorps @spookcentral @BestGirlGrace the thing about running a mcelroy podcast is you never know what will walk in through that door

@BestGirlGrace they'll find a way to get travis because everyone already hates him
