using firefox and thunderbird as part of my resolution to only use software that has a fursona
@BestGirlGrace pawassoword keeper.
@BestGirlGrace I loaded up Outlook.com in the web browser and it's been blocking one request about every five seconds while it sits idly in my empty Inbox, so that might have something to do with it.
@BestGirlGrace because it's hard to make ad revenue on native programs
Although I believe Microsoft fixed that particular bug. Before un-fixing it, from what I understand.
@BestGirlGrace Very glad that my computers are both upgraded from Win7, so I still have Photo Viewer and Windows Media Player
@BestGirlGrace late to this party, but knowing the Windows team, they probably forgot how to build the old ones
there's a whole series of blog posts on shit like this, including the fun fact that cmd.exe is now older than most of the people working on it
@VyrCossont I've read enough Raymond Chen stories to believe this, honestly.
Plus, it's a chance to show off the Hot New UWP Technology that nobody's using.
@BestGirlGrace they honestly would have made fewer developers sad by sticking with XNA, the pre-UWP cross-platform story
but instead we're probably gonna get UWP2 for Windows 11: all apps must be written as VS Code plugins
@BestGirlGrace oh who am i kidding
there won't be a Windows 11, it'll be called Windows 10 Anniversary of the Anniversary Update
@VyrCossont Oh, of course not. It'll be Windows 10 Forever.
Now, everything as a Microsoft Teams app..
@BestGirlGrace I'm trying to imagine persuading my work to let us do native programs outside iOS and Android.
Maybe when there's a cross-platform native UI framework---
"Um, actually, Qt and Java---"
---that sucks less than the web.
@vy yeah, that's the giant mood
maybe we went too far in the pursuit of "cross platform", but also when I have to write something that needs a UI, I reach for a website because I don't even know where to start with Qt and I refuse to write Java for fun
@BestGirlGrace That's the thing--- I think using React is really fun and satisfying. And "React Native" only targets mobile. So.
@BestGirlGrace you probably could with RSS?
@adamk678 You can follow individual people with RSS, but no home TL-type stuff.
@BestGirlGrace does firefox support html5 manifests
@BestGirlGrace also doesn't IE have an anime mascot or something
@ben I mean, if you count Windows-tan and IE-tan, sure, but those aren't fursonas
@ben it hasn't offered to do the progressive web app thing for masto yet, but maybe I just haven't found the botton
@BestGirlGrace Like, they could just make one picture of a kangaroo with all your passwords in it's pouch and that would probably count
@rockario Exactly! It doesn't have to be a good fursona, it'd just help me out on this very specific mission.
@BestGirlGrace you could use Dashlane
@BestGirlGrace In regards to password managers, I would like to alert you to the existence of RememBear
Don't let the name fool you. All the pornography here is legal, and much of it is hand-written. No fascists, no bigots.
